American Banker published its annual reputation rankings, in which BMO Harris Bank ranked third among customers– a significant increase from 2019 where the bank ranked 20! The bank ranked 16 among non-customers in the survey, with its highest score in the past three years among that segment
The reputation survey shows that consumers increasingly care about how banks treat their team members, customers and communities. BMO’s focus on Purpose, community and customers over the past year led to our leap in the rankings. BMO earned a top five rating in Citizenship among customers, showing that our Purpose to Boldly Grow the Good, in business and life, continues to be amplified and noticed by customers.
The survey is primarily taken by individuals who fall into BMO’s Personal Banking segment. Banks included in the survey are drawn from the Federal Reserve’s list of large commercial banks, with final selections by American Banker based on total assets and retail business strength.
“I am immensely proud of our team for delivering on BMO’s Purpose to Boldly Grow the Good and earning us the third spot in the American Banker reputation rankings,” said Ernie Johannson, Group Head, North American Personal & Business Banking. “We care deeply about our customers, and we’re so grateful for their trust.”
According to the survey, the banking industry saw a sizeable reputational life overall this year, being a “hero” of the pandemic through increased philanthropic efforts and in the form of Paycheck Protection Program loans.
